HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1841 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE. CAL. 54. Appears to be an Indian used rifle as there is evidence of two rows of tack holes around the patch box. The rifle has a 33″ bbl with fixed sights and brass furniture. The lock plate has the makers’ name and the date 1850 vertically behind the hammer. The bore appears to have been reamed out smooth and the sling swivels are missing. CONDITION: About good. The bbl has been cold blued with some artificial aging and scattered light surface rust. The brass is polished to a bright yellow. The wood is sound with the aforementioned tack holes and several gouges and large dings on the buttstock. The forestock, between the trigger guard and first band, has severe saddle wear having worn completely through into the ramrod channel. There is a replaced chip at the toe and a few small splinters missing from the upper ramrod channel with a chip missing behind the nipple. Good mechanics. 4-45170 JL269 (1,500-2,000)
