AESTHETIC MOVEMENT INLAID ROSEWOOD MARBLE TOP CHEST WITH MIRROR. Third quarter 19th century, probably New York. In the style and manner of Herter Brothers, the rectangular chest with original black and green marble veined with white with molded edge on the conforming case fitted with a pair of aligned drawers above a pair of inset panel doors flanked by freestanding balusters, the case sides with molded panels raised on suppressed ball feet. The chest surmounted with a rectangular mirror plate within a molded surround flanked by freestanding fluted columns with ionic capitals beneath the conforming frieze above the arched crest with carved female bust. The whole with gilt metal mounts, rosettes and cartouches. The crest, drawer fronts and doors all with fine marquetry panels of scrolling floral design and floral filled urns and sprays.
