PAIR OF CENTENNIAL GEORGIAN ARMCHAIRS.Mid-19th century, England. These fine hand carved examples, each with serpentine foliate carved and pierced crest rail, the scrolled ears with volutes above the pierced splat carved in high relief with bow-tied ribbons, tassels, and leaf tips. Shaped arms with foliate carved rolled hand grips on a molded and shaped incurved support centering a trapezoidal molded seat frame, each fitted with slip seat, on acanthus and floral carved cabriole legs terminating in talon and ball feet. The chamfered rear legs backswept joined by a rectangular stretcher. SIZE: Back: 39″ h. Seat: 17-1/2″ h. Overall width: 28-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: William Doyle Auction Gallery, New York. From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: Chairs retain original rich dark brown surfaces with good color and patina. Seat blocks are replacements. Seat frame has been reglued and tightened with structural repairs to supports at arms. Each chair with restoration to stiles and crest rail, notably proper left stile of one chair.
