Pastel on paper, half portrait of a young woman seated in a pained chair. She wears a lace edged gray dress. Her hair with tortoise shell comb. Unsigned. Housed in a period black and gold frame behind glass. On verso is a carte de visite of a portrait of a man which was found inside the backing of this portrait. There is a modern written note attesting to this fact and indicating that the carte de visite could be Rufus Porter.
