Three written pages, two integral, inscribed and dated, “Washington, 23 January 1843”, excerpt: “To what depth of degradation has our Old Commonwealth fallen, I do not believe there is a state in the Union in such unprincipled hands….” excerpt: “I have been so burdened with Warehouse Bills, & Light House Bills, & Free Colored Seamen Resolutions……”, Signed Robt. C. Winthrop. Housed in a modern silver gilt frame, and matted with copy of letter cover page, engraving portrait of Winthrop, and typed transcriptions.
