DUTCH MAHOGANY AND CHECKER-INLAID BAROMETER. First quarter 19th century, Holland. The pewter dial surmounted by urns fitted with a central mercury tube flanked by a barometric tube to the left centering a thermometer beneath a plaque “BAROMETER / THERMOMETER / en / CONTROLEUR / door / J: STOPPANI / & Zoon. / Amsterdam“. To the right is a third glass tube probably filled with red-dyed alcohol beside an additional barometric gauge. The mahogany case of architectural form surmounted by an urn finial emitting flame centered by a molded crest with eglomise panel above the frieze with eglomise panel designed with wreath and sprays above the glass door with checkerboard inlay over a box base fitted with an eglomise panel depicting a gentleman in top hat and coat walking through a landscape above a pair of aligned acorn pendant finials. SIZE: 52-1/2″ h x 11” w overall. CONDITION: All glass tubes full and in working order, eglomise panels intact, pewter dial good with normal and expected tarnish.
