CARVED CALLING CARD FIGURE OF A MONKEY.Early 19th century or later, probably American. Intricately carved and of sensitive design. The seated figure of a monkey on fanciful stump with bandsman’s cap and short tunic grasping his long sinuous tail the monkey with well defined hair and angry attitude having outstretched hand that once held calling card tray. Carved in poplar. SIZE: 58″ H PROVENANCE: From a New Jersey Estate to our consignor. CONDITION: Very good, wonderful dark patina having loss to the feather of the cap, a few minor chips and loss and old repair to left hand. 9-94481 (3,000-5,000) – Lot 2571
