TWO PAIR OF BENCHMADE FOUR POSTER BEDS. First half 20th century, New England. Comprising a fine pair of mahogany Federal style carved beds. The first pair with reeded swelled posts above acanthus carved section surmounted by spiral twist finials and centering a paneled headboard with swan’s neck pediment terminating in floral rosettes. The headboard and footboard raised on short cabriole legs headed by scalloped shell carvings, terminating in ball and claw feet. The second pair of figured maple with swelled, reeded and ring-turned posts, the headboard with shaped panels and scrolled ears. SIZE: First pair: 66″ h. Exterior: 40″ w x 83″ l. Interior: 35-1/2″ w x 76″ l Second pair: 58-1/2″ h. Exterior: 39″ w x 76″ l. Interior: 35-1/2″ w x 81″ l. CONDITION: Pair of mahogany beds very good overall with original surfaces. Pair of maple beds retain original surfaces, headboards with minor scuffing and abrasions, otherwise good. 9-93026 (800-1,200)
