GEORGIAN STYLE YEW SECRETARY BOOKCASE. First quarter 19th century, England. In two parts, the upper case with cove-molded cornice above a pair of doors now mounted with wire inserts set within shaped, molded and cross-banded frame, the interior with three adjustable shelves. The lower case with hinged sloping lid with tooled leather writing surface. The interior fitted with an arrangement of valenced pigeon holes centering a prospect door above a row of document drawers flanked by a bank of two stationary drawers. Above three graduated long drawers with thumb-molded edges and cross-banding on a molded base raised on ogee bracket feet. SIZE: 82″ h x 42″ case w x 23-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Rye Galleries, High Street, Eaton, England. CONDITION: The desk with overall professional restoration, wire mesh door panels old if not original. Hardware is a replacement, but of the period. Feet probably reduced in height. Desk is in generally very nice condition. 9-90282 (1,500-2,500)
