TWO CLASSICAL DECORATED TOLE WARE TRAYS. First quarter 19th century. The largest oval tray depicting an amorous young couple in a classical tree landscape, two putti in the foreground centered by eight rural landscape scenes, each with a classical home or building. The ends with open hand grips set in tray sides decorated with scrolling grapevines, all on a yellow ground. The second oval tray with central conforming landscape depicting three women gathering fruit within an Anthemion leaf border, the tray with canted sides and rolled grips, the whole with orange ground. SIZE: 30-1/4″ l and 25-1/2″ l respectively. CONDITION: Both trays with original surfaces, the first with extensive chipping to painted and stenciled areas and with denting to edges, the second with crackled painted surfaces and soiling.
