AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK MEMORIAL SAMPLER BY FRANCES M. BUSHNELL. Circa 1843, New England. The central alphabet above an embroidered scene depicting a three story Georgian stone house beside a formal garden with two flowering fruit trees centering a fenced and walled family cemetery beside which is standing a female figure in dress. The whole bordered with the names of family members embroidered in browns and reds, now very faded. On the left, two lines of verse reading: “Glory to God on High , our peace is made With Heaven. / the son of God came down to die. that We might be forgiven.” Mounted in a lemon gold frame. SIZE: Sight: 17″ x 17″. Overall: 20″ x 20″. CONDITION: With deterioration and fading to family names as stated, otherwise very good. Linen foundation now a light even brown.
