RILEY WHITING TALL CASE CLOCK. First quarter 19th century, Connecticut. The grained case with scrolling crest alternating with three pediments above the molded cornice. The glass door with tombstone arch opening to the original painted wood face, the dial with Roman Numeral chapter ring within gilt and paint-decorated spandrels, all centering the sweep seconds subsidiary dial above the gilt inscription “R. WHITING WINCHESTER” within rectangular black borders. The weight driven wooden works original. The throat with central door having thumb molded edges joined to a box base raised on slender bracket feet. SIZE: 88-1/2″ t. Throat: 13-1/2″ w. 10″ d. CONDITION: Original dry crusty surfaces intact. Painted dial slightly faded but in good condition. Finials absent, pendulum present. 9-90234 (1,000-2,000)
