FINE SACK-BACK KNUCKLE ARM WINDSOR CHAIR. Circa 1770, Connecticut. The armchair comprised of pine, maple, hickory and ash, of well developed form with arched round crest raked rail terminating in square ends (typical of North Central Connecticut) above seven spindles joined to the medial arm rail continuing to carved knuckle hand holds on vase, ring and reel-turned supports centering a wide saddle seat. The well splayed legs with vase, ring and reel turnings joined by bulbous H-form stretcher. SIZE: 37″ h. Seat: 17″ h. CONDITION: Chair retains early brown/black paint, now dry and crusty. The underside of seat with early plug repairs stabilizing split. Very good overall, with expected wear and abrasions. 9-91573 (1,000-2,000)
