STATE OF MAINE PAINT-DECORATED TALL CASE CLOCK.

Early 19th century, Maine, the bonnet with boldly turned finials, separated by double “s” scroll decoration having tombstone shaped door with conforming crown molding, the sides with delicately full turned columns all siting atop bold base, the case with narrow center door, separated by a cove molding with wider lower section having cut out molding. The entire clock red painted with black pin striping and gray green panels banded in lighter gray and having gray/green trim. The clock face painted black with white numerals having gilt decoration in the corners. Accompanying the clock is a period photograph of a very nicely decorated interior room setting with a gentleman (presumably a relative) seated in front of the clock. SIZE: 88″ h. PROVENANCE: Estate of Annie Chase, Randolph, Maine. CONDITION: Clock in very good condition, weights, time strike movement and pendulum intact, painted surface alligatored revealing earlier gray painted surface. Having normal wear and scratches commensurate with age. Face was repainted at the time the case was repainted. 9-94226 (8,000-12,000) – Lot 2423
