FINE LARGE SACK-BACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIR. Circa 1780, New York, New York. This rare example with bowed crest rail raked and splayed joined to seven spindles, the arm rail terminating in outswept hand grips supported by bold baluster, vase and ring turned supports centering the carved and chamfered saddle seat raised on bold splayed baluster vase and ring turned legs joined by bulbous turned stretchers. NOTE: For similar sack-back examples, see “The Windsor Style in America Volume II” by Charles Santore, p. 101, Plate 87. SIZE: 37″ h. Seat: 17-1/2″ h.
