THOMAS H. WILLIS (American, 1850-1925) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAM YACHT “WAKIVA”.Oil & silk on canvas scene shows the single stack, two mast steam yacht sailing right to left on green white tipped wave ocean under white and gray cloud blue sky. It flies the American flag off the stern and pennants of the masts. Several figures are on multiple decks. Housed in a modern gilt frame behind glass with name plaque, initial monogram lower right, original Willis card attached to reverse. NOTE: The yacht was built for Lamon V. Harkness in Scotland by Ramage & Ferguson, Launched 1907; Requisitioned by the US Navy in WWI and sunk in 1918. SIZE: Sight: 20-1/2″ x 37-1/2″. Overall: 26″ x 43″.
