MEDIEVAL CELTIC MONTEFORTINO TYPE HELMET. Circa 300 B.C-100 A.D. The helmet in a conical form, with raised central knob having further embellishment of bird or snake heads. A protruding neck guard missing its cheek plates. The rim decorated with a rope type edge with other incised lines, two holes are present on sides to accommodate the cheek plates. Also a drilled hole in neck guard is present. SIZE: 10″ h. 11″ front to side. 8-1/2″ side to side. PROVENANCE: From a fine Kentucky Estate. CONDITION: Wonderful mottled brown to green patina. 1″ x 1″ hole in neck guard. Otherwise very good. 9-92286 (2,500-4,500)
