FRAGMENT OF CONFEDERATE FLAG CAPTURED BY CORPORAL JOHN CONANT OF THE 44TH MASSACHUSETTS INFANTRY. Accompanying a 4″ x 2″ remnant of red cotton is a tag that reads “This is a piece of a rebel flag that we took from a battery. It is not much of itself but will serve for a “relic” John”. Accompanying the fragment is a CDV of Corporal Conant. Conant entered service 8/29/1862 as a Private, was mustered out 6/18/1863 and entered the 29th MA Heavy Artillery and was then commissioned July 1, 1865 into Co. A of the 54th MA Infantry. CONDITION: Generally good. 9-90567 (400-600)
