UNSIGNED (American, last half of 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF BENJAMIN DAVIS.

The portrait shows a young man in Civil War Captain’s uniform, wearing a mustache and beard, with brown hair. He lived in Charlestown, Mass and was a cabinet maker. He enlisted on 4/19/1861 as a Private and mustered into the Mass 5th Infantry. On 9/3/1861 he mustered into the Mass 22nd Infantry and was killed on 5/10/1864 at Laurel Hill, Va. Housed in its original 19th century fancy gilt frame with some losses. SIZE: Sight: 30″ x 25″ Overall: 40″ x 35″ CONDITION: Several holes, in need of restoration. 7-70721 (600-900) – Lot 2295
