PAIR OF BRITISH FLINTLOCK DUELING PISTOLS.

This pair of very well made 9″ oct bbl duelers exhibit 56 Cal. bores, browned bbls, all steel mountings which are nicely engraved. The maker Richard Wicksted has his mark in gold on each lock and a cartouche “R.W.” on each bbl along with other proofs. There is an engraved silver escutcheon in each gun in stocks opposite lock. These guns are typical of other English flints produced circa 1790 and appear orig and complete throughout. CONDITION: Guns overall are sound and solid, functional. Bbls have a rebrowned, other surfaces are gray/brown with scattered areas of pitting. Ramrods are orig. Gold insets in locks are only partially discernible as to maker (Wicksted is listed in Gardner, Small Arms Makers, London 1772-1778). 9-94499 (4,500-6,500) – Lot 2291
