MASSIVE COLORFUL RECRUITING BROADSIDE FOR THE MANHATTAN RIFLES.

Massive broadside of which an identical one is in the “Treasures of the New York Historical Society” collection. This popular poster has been reproduced for years and this is the first original example we can find that ever came to auction. Poster appears to be 3 colors but the dark purple is actually well executed overprint between the red and the blue. This is a wonderful huge colorful poster that could be the centerpiece of any Civil War collection. SIZE: 45-1/2″ x 32-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Norm Flayderman Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fair to good overall as laid and mounted on linen. Numerous small chips and reductions along folds where cracked. Minor losses in the 21″ tall vignette of standing Zouave and some text as can be seen in photos but this poster presents beautifully. Colors are still excellent and paper though dry and brittle in areas with acid burn and soiling. 9-93037 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2282
