MASSIVE 7′ TALL RECRUITING BROADSIDE, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.

This may be the largest Civil War recruiting broadside extant. Published in Boston by JH Farwell on Washington Street at the US Mammoth Steamer Job Printers. This poster is appealing for recruits of all branches of service: Infantry, Rifleman, Cavalry, Artillerymen and Sharpshooters. Two sections of the poster appeal to Boston’s Irish “ERIN GO BRAGH, THE IRISH BRIGADE” “RALLY FOR THE OLD WAR CRY” “FAUGH A BALLAUGH, LET YOUR GREEN FLAG BE TURNED WITH YOUR ADOPTED COUNTRIES STARRY BANNER”. If you ever wanted the largest Civil War recruiting broadside ever offered at auction in beautiful, displayable condition, this is probably it. SIZE: 3-1/2′ x 7′. PROVENANCE: Norm Flayderman Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fair to good as laid and mounted on linen. Originally had two brass grommets in each upper corner, right one is missing with 1-1/2″ x 1″ corner. Cracks in several folds with small paper reductions that do not affect the overall aesthetics of this massive poster. 9-93036 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 2280
