FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY SOFA.First quarter 19th century, probably Massachusetts. The rectangular overupholstered back with central tablet crest continuing to downsloping arms terminating in reeded hand grips on swelled reeded cylindrical supports centering an overupholstered rectangular seat fitted with conforming cushion raised on four cylindrical ring-turned and reeded legs headed by rectangular inlaid blocks and terminating in tapering feet with ringed cuffs, the four rear legs backswept. Sofa is upholstered in a raw silk covering in ivory and pale blue stripes. SIZE: Back: 35-1/2″ h. Seat: 18-1/2″ h. Overall: 77-1/2″ l x 25″ d. PROVENANCE: Valdemar F. Jacobsen Antiques. From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: The upholstery in clean condition, sofa frame has been tightened and professionally repolished with minor structural repairs to two central front legs, repairs incorporate original parts.
