This is yellow poplar; as a New York table that would be expected. FINE FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY PEMBROKE TABLE.Late 18th-early 19th century, New York. The rectangular top with hinged leaves, each with serpentine front continuing to ovolo corners, all with contrasting string inlaid borders. The frieze fitted with a single drawer crossbanded in rosewood opposing a simulated drawer, each with original brass knob. The whole raised on square tapering legs headed by oval inlaid fan paterae above pendant husk inlays, the leg over mahogany cuffs with contrasting ebony and satinwood borders. Elements of the table, rather than the more typical poplar secondary found in regional New York pieces, has yellow pine drawer sides and in addition the sides to the table also of yellow pine. SIZE: 28″ h x 20-1/2″ w (closed) x 33″ d. Table open: 38-1/2″ x 33″. PROVENANCE: From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: Table retains old well polished surfaces with rich color and patina with original brasses and inlays. Very good overall. 9-93306 (7,000-9,000) – Lot 2227
