UNUSUALLY RARE OWL WEATHERVANE.American, circa 1900. Molded copper. Probably by J.L. Mott Iron Works, New York and Chicago. A family of five owls, arranged in descending order according to size, are perched on a fancifully scrolled display mount. Symbolizing wisdom, this group was quite likely from a school or library. See the 1892 J.L. Mott catalog, pg 63, Plate 144-Q, for an artist’s rendering of a very similar vane. Mounted on a museum stand. SIZE: 52″ h x 88″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private Midwestern collection.
