MASSACHUSETTS CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIR.

Second half 18th century, Boston or North Shore. The arched serpentine crest rail terminating in molded blunt ears above the pierced splat with central pierced stylized diamond, joined to the trapezoidal seat frame fitted with slip seat raised on angular frontal cabriole legs with shaped returns continuing to pronounced platform pad feet. The chamfered rear legs backswept joined by turned and blocked box stretcher. SIZE: Height of back: 38″ h. Height of seat: 17″ h. Overall width: 22-3/4″. PROVENANCE: From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: Professionally repolished and restored. Seat blocks replaced. Losses to back of each rear leg. Proper left rear leg with cosmetic filling of imperfections. Structurally the chair is in good condition with no major repairs or restoration. Front pads on feet show normal and expected wear.
