CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY SLANT-LID DESK. Late 18th century, Massachusetts, probably Boston. The rectangular case with hinged sloping lid opening to a fully fitted interior of drawers and pigeonholes with boxwood inlays above four graduated oxbow long drawers, the top drawer with nicely formed shaping. The brass hardware original. On a molded base, the apron with carved center drop raised on short shaped legs terminating in bold ball and claw feet. NOTE: This example in the manner of or school of Benjamin Frothingham of Charlestown, Massachusetts. SIZE: 42″w x 23″d x 44″h. CONDITION: Very good, having minor loss to top near lock.
