EXCEPTIONAL CHIPPENDALE MAPLE CORNER CHAIR.

Third quarter 18th century, Massachusetts. The tiger maple pillow crest joined to the circular rail continuing to outscrolled grips above pierced and scrolled “owl” splats alternating with ring-turned pilasters centering the square original molded seat frame fitted with original slip seat above the arched rail raised on cabriole frontal leg with shaped returns and three tapering cylindrical legs each on circular pad foot, all joined by a blocked and turned X-form stretcher. The whole in highly figured maple with mellow patina in of honey brown color. SIZE: Back: 31-3/4″ h. Seat: 17-1/4″ h. Overall width: 31-1/2″. PROVENANCE: John Walton Antiques. From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: Professionally polished old surfaces with signs of minimal and minor wear, with no damages or restoration.
