CHIPPENDALE TIGER MAPLE SIDE CHAIR.Third quarter 18th century, New England. This transitional example with serpentine crest-rail with central shell carving continuing to scrolled ears above shaped stiles centering a vasiform splat carved with four small volutes above the trapezoidal molded seat frame raised on square chamfered frontal legs with pierced C-scroll brackets, the rear legs backswept, all joined by a recessed box stretcher. SIZE: Back: 38″ h. Seat: 17″ h. Overall width: 20″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine private Long Island, NY collection. CONDITION: Original surfaces scrubbed and repolished, now with medium brown honey color. Original slip seat frame. No restoration noted. Structurally very good. 9-93343 (800-1,200) – Lot 2199
