AMERICAN HISTORICAL WAR OF 1812 PITCHER. This Staffordshire style pitcher has a green body with pink lustre highlights concentrated near the top. The first transfer is “The CONSTITUTION in close action with the GUERRIERE” and shows a vivid and well executed depiction of the ships in battle. The second transfer is entitled “The Constitutions Escape from the British Squadron after a Chase of sixty hours”. The ships in the transfer include the Constitution and the British ships Shannon, Aeolus, Guerriere and Belvidera. SIZE: 7-1/4″ h x 5-5/8″ w. PROVENANCE: From a private New Jersey collection.. Ex Arthur J. Sussel Naval Collection sold by C.G. Sloan & Company, January 1978. CONDITION: Generally good condition with 4 glued cracks in the handle being the only damage of note. 9-90901 (1,800-2,600)
