GILLES MARTINOT BOULLE FRENCH CLOCK.

Late 18th or early 19th century. Boulle & ormolu decorated French empire shelf clock with turned & melon fluted feet, scroll & rosette base ornament with mask of Hercules, having caryatid corner embellishments, inwood scrolling capital with flame finials & dog ornament, elaborate boulle decoration with winged angel and exotic animals. The time & strike movement marked “Gilles Martinot a Paris”. With bob & key. SIZE: 21-1/4″ h x 11″ w x 5″ d. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Anthony M. Kurland Jr of Maine. Archaeologist with degree from Yale and PhD from Harvard. Purchased from Dare Antiques, Amsterdam, 11/25/2001. CONDITION: A few losses & repair to boulle, 2 cracks in ormolu, other apparent repairs & alteration to case, and possible replacement of dog finial. 9-93122 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 2183
