EARLY DELFT ARMORIAL PLATE.

An exquisite blue and white decorated early 18th century Armorial plate painted with the Arms of the Wentworth family with a chevron between 3 leopards heads and circled by a garter inscribed with the motto “HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE” beneath an Earl’s coronet. A griffin and a lion standing on a bracket supporting the crest. A banderole has the motto “EN DIEU EST TOUT”. The back of the plate has 3 concentric rings and is signed in the center “PAK” for Pieter Adriaensz Kocx. The plate was made at the “De Grieksche A” factory from 1701 to 1703 by him or from 1703 to 1722 by his widow. SIZE: Diameter 8-3/4″. PROVENANCE: Purchased from Aronson Antiquairs, Amsterdam; Illustrated by Robert Aronson in ‘Dutch Delftware, Including Selections From A Distinguished Manhattan Collector’, Amsterdam 2009, No 40 P 64-65 (This book accompanies lot).
