SET OF FOUR BOW-BACK WINDSOR SIDE CHAIRS. Late 18th century, Connecticut. Each molded bowed crest rail above seven swelled spindles joined to the shaped saddle seat raised on swelled splayed and raked legs joined by conforming H-stretchers. NOTE: Three chairs in original bottle green paint with mustard and red painted pine seats; the fourth chair overpainted in old red, the seat of chestnut. Although this chair has slightly thinner crest rail and minimally smaller circumference of the swells in the legs, we believe the set to be by the same hand. SIZE: 38-1/2″ h. Seat: 18-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Painted surfaces as noted, the fourth chair with old iron brace stabilizing an early crack to underside of seat. 9-92073 (2,500-4,000)
