OUTSTANDING GRASSHOPPER WEATHERVANE.American, late 19th century. Molded copper. Attributed to L.W. Cushing and Sons, Waltham, Mass. Full bodied and crafted in fine detail. A virtually identical grasshopper weathervane is illustrated in the 1883 catalogue issues by L.W. Cushing and Sons. See Christies Jan. 2009 catalog, lot 286, as well as Christie’s Jan. 2008, lot 740 for closely related examples. Mounted on a museum stand. SIZE: 30″ h (including shaft and finial) x 40″ l.
