SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 CADET RIFLE. CAL. 45-70. First type cadet rifle with 2-pc carbine style trigger guard and Buffington rifle sight. The upper band has both sling and stacking swivels with a button head ramrod and no trap in the butt. The cartouche on the left side of the wrist is indecipherable and the breech block is dated 1884. There are remnants of unit markings on right side of buttstock. SN 279469 CONDITION: Good. The bbl retains a dark even plum-brown patina. Receiver, breech block and hammer are a mottled gray-brown color and the lock plate is a thin blue. Wood is sound with myriad small nicks and dings and a few bruises and is dark and oil stained. Mechanics are excellent. Strong bright bore with light pitting. 4-45690 JL181 (500-1,000)
