TWO IMPORTANT AND RARE W. IRVING PISTOLS – INCLUDING THE EARLIEST KNOWN W. IRVING MARKED PISTOL AND A RARE MODEL 1 REVOLVER.SN 4/814. Cal. 22. 1) A landmark single shot pistol, this earliest known W. Irving NY pistol is a single shot, side-swing, .22 cal pocket pistol. Blued bbl, bronze frame, 2-pc wood grips. 2-1/2″ bbl with brass front bead marked “W. Irving” on top. 2) A rare Model 1 high hump revolver with 3-1/2″ bbl marked on top “Address W. Irving, 20 Cliff Street, N.Y.” Six shot cylinder with unique loading gate on right side of frame which exhibits beautiful machining. Knurled hammer, top strap, frame, and back strap are nicely scroll, and line engraved. Top strap with a beautiful arrow and snake design engraving motif. 2-pc varnished wood grips. Formally in the Doug Eberhart Collection. PROVENANCE: The Carmen Gianforte Collection. CONDITION: 1) Good. Bbl retains most of restored blued finish with scattered pits throughout, though maker mark is strong. Frame is mustard color with various minor nicks and handling marks throughout. Grips are very good though slightly undersized, left grip with minute repair at frame. Bore is good with scattered light pitting. 2) Very good. Bbl retains a trace of orig blue although has toned mostly brown. Receiver, cylinder, hammer, front and back straps, are a pleasing gun metal gray. Mechanics are very good.
