J HALL (Canada, 19th Century) CANADA SHIP “OTHERE” OF NEW GLASGOW. Watercolor Housed in a gilt molded wood frame with glass and its original shaped matte Signed lower left “J Hall 1875” NOTE: “Othere” New Glasgow commanded by J.A.C. Green” written across bottom Accompanying the watercolor are two letters: July 31, 1892 and August 21, 1892. One to the Captain’s mother, the other to his grandmother. Each were written at sea while beating his way with a disabled ship (Gazelle) in the South Atlantic. A small notebook inscribed “Lisa Green, Ladies College, Halifax”. 1-1/4″ x 1″ oval tintype of Captain James Adam Green. Also included is a three page single-spaced typed history of Captain Green and his wife. SIZE: Sight: 18-1/2 x 28-1/4″. Overall: 28-1/2″ x 38-1/2″ CONDITION: Light foxing & toning, generally very good. Not examined out of the frame. 9-90539 (1,500-2,000)
