HAROLD HALIDAY COSTAIN (American, 1897-1994) A LARGE LOT OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DUKE & DUCHESS OF WINDSOR AND RELATED EPHEMERA.Large lot of photographs & ephemera from & related to a 1940 magazine shoot for Town & Country of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor and their Nassau Bahamas home “Government House”. “After being contacted…by a number of publications…it would be far better to arrange to give this exclusively to one of the better known journals…the Duchess is very desirous that there should be some color photographs…and in this connection a photographer by the name of Costain was mentioned…” from a letter from the office of the Duchess. Lot consists of 19 signed & mounted photographs with artist stamp & title; 14 versions mounted & unsigned with artist stamp & title; 2 mounted, unstamped & untitled; 18 unmounted photographs, most with artist stamp; together with color transparencies & negatives, 4 copies of the “Town & Country” magazines where these photos appeared, along with correspondence and souvenirs. All are unframed, 33 are titled on verso. SIZE: Mounted image ranges from 8-1/2″ x 8″ to 13-1/4″ x 10-1/2″. Loose range from 9-3/4″ x 8″ to 13-1/4″ x 10-1/2″.
