JAMES (COLONEL) FAIRMAN (American, 1826-1904) “MOUNTAINS MADISON & ADAMS AND ANDROSCOGGIN RIVER”. Oil on canvas Housed in what appears to be its original outstanding gesso decorate frame with gilt liner Monogrammed with initials “JF” lower left. Also titled & signed & dated “67” on verso of canvas Fairman came to the United States in 1832 and studied at the NAD in 1842. After serving as a Colonel in the Civil War he opened a studio in NYC. In 1871 he went to Europe where he spent the next 10 years. He exhibited at the NAD and the PAFA. SIZE: 19-1/2″ x 36″. Overall: 28-1/2″ x 45-1/4″ CONDITION: Lined, inpainting to craquelure, otherwise very good 9-92802 (10,000-20,000)
