Left side marked “Browning Patent, Pat’d April 20, 1897, Sept 9, 1902”, “Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Mfg Company. Hartford, Conn. U.S.A.” Lanyard loop swivel on left bottom corner of receiver. Mag marking “Cal. 38/Colt”. Accompanied by period holster. Colt started with SN 15,000 in this series with the intention of numbering down and this is one of the first 200 guns made of this model. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Bluing on slide and frame is all Colt orig. Rear sight may have been removed as slide shows small peening marks front and back. Rear grip strap has several drag marks from a ring. Fire bluing on wedge on both sides partially visible. Front grip strap shows most of the bluing with some small scratches. *COLT 1911 PISTOL .45 CALIBER.SN 139275. Cal. 45ACP. Made in early 1917. Inspected by Gilbert H. Stewart with sub-inspector Frank Hosmer. Typical early 1917 pistol with Roman-type font on all slide and receiver markings. Wide spur hammer, long trigger and flat mainspring housing, sights are in excellent condition with only some blue missing on corners. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Most parts appear to be correct and orig with the following exceptions; bbl is WWII replacement by High Standard, flat mainspring housing appears to have been replaced by one with a number of dents that have been refinished, keyhole lanyard loop mag is from an earlier pistol. Lanyard loop was discontinued in 1916. Walnut grips and screws appear to be in excellent plus condition. Front grip strap slightly fading, bluing is worn only on the high edges, but slight fading all over. Small screw mark on right trigger from a trigger shoe. Slide has slight scratch mark near lower front of ejection port. Receiver has small scratch mark right side below hammer and a very small take-down scratch on left side. All markings are typical and correct including Hosmers inspection mark above the firing pin stop plate and Hosmers mark above disconnector hole. Very small pit hidden by slide stop. Mag catch lock slot slightly damaged. Overall a very nice example of an early 1917 pistol with only a couple of changed parts. Proper wide spur hammer, wide trigger, thin front sight, relieved checkered slide stop, and not much wear to the slide hold back notch. Two toned type mag. CONDITION: Front and rear sights in good condition, rear sight has proper small “U” notch. Receiver and slide have most of the orig economy war time finish remaining. Finish may possibly have been re-blued but shows no apparent buffing. Receiver and slide have numerous small dings and scratches but very little pitting. Stocks are proper Colt double diamond type in good ++ condition. Stock screws show minor slot damage. Holes behind stocks show heart shaped cutouts. Bbl has vertical “P H” marking which is per the books a bit too early for the SN. Bore good ++ with a couple of pits. Minor pitting on both sides of the trigger. Slide has slight deterioration of finish on top with most of the finish on the sides intact. Small scratches to the recoil spring housing cutout near muzzle. Slight finish wear to edges at muzzle. Receiver has mostly orig finish remaining. Only a small amount of corrosion on the mainspring housing where it rubs the holster, and on the lower edge. Only slight finish deterioration on front grip strap and rest of receiver. Typical wear on bottom right corner of butt. Moderate takedown scratch. Stock screws show mostly orig finish and orig faceting. Bore is bright and shiny. Only moderate wear on slide rails, and just the slightest peening of holdopen and takedown notches. Bbl finish shows only moderate deterioration in ejection port area. Orig dbl diamond walnut stocks show only slight wear at the bottoms especially the right stock. Otherwise, excellent condition. Finish is excellent with only slight deterioration on sides and floorplate of mag. Stocks both in very good+ condition, only partial flattening of diamonds. Both stocks show minor screwdriver damage to screws and wood around screws. Mag catch in excellent condition. Mag catch lock slightly buggered. Lands and grooves are slightly frosted. Bbl appears shiny on lands despite frosting. Top of slide front has numerous dings. Left side of slide has large ding behind front sight. Right receiver has start of corrosion above stock and in front of lower stock. Left side shows minor takedown scratch as well as holster wear on trigger guard and dustcover. Mainspring housing shows matching wear on lower right portion. Thinning to grip strap. Slide stop has no “S” mark but is partially checkered all the way to the top. Grip safety and mainspring housing have been refinished and are Colt manufacture. Mag catch assembly appears to be of Colt manufacture. Slide right side marked “Springfield”. Springfield Ordinance eagle rear of ejection port and “Model of 1911.U.S. ARMY” in front of ejection port. Slide left side has standard Colt patent information followed by “Springfield Armory. U.S.A.”. Rear of slide left shows Springfield flaming bomb. Front sight is integral thin rounded Springfield type. Bbl bushing has no “S” mark but a punch mark and appears to be Colt type. Mag is standard Springfield Armory manufacture. CONDITION: Stock screws right show some buggering. Stocks screws left upper shows no buggering. Lower screw left shows minor buggering. Slide shows considerable pitting under an added chemical blue finish. Grip safety and mainspring housing are Colt replacement parts and have been refinished with a chemical blue. Receiver shows most of orig rust blued finish with some deterioration due to oxidation. Heavy takedown scratch. Correct Springfield manufactured mag with folded over lips, shows considerable wear and surface erosion. Area on back top of mag shows no remaining copper, very little finish remaining on lower quadrant of mag. Most of later applied blue finish to slide remains. Right side of slide and receiver have a corrosion mark that fits together indicating slide and receiver have been together for some time. Bbl marked “P, H” vertical. “5” marking in front of lug. Receiver has multiple bugger marks around hammer and thumb safety pin right side. Minor takedown scratch. Machining marks on receiver still go in proper directions. Slide marked “Model of 1911 U.S. ARMY” right side. Left slide marking “Patented December 19.1905” over “Feb 14.1911, Aug.19.1913” over “Colt’s PT.F.A.MFG.CO.” next to flaming bomb with “S” in the center. This slide was made by the A.J. Savage Munitions Company of San Diego, California and are generally believed to be leftover parts from a canceled contract that were used as replacement parts. (Clawson, Collector’s Guide, pg. 29). Receiver marked “United States Property” on left upper dust cover. Springfield eagle over “S8” above mag catch left. Front sight is thin, rounded. Rear sight is thin, square notch. Dbl diamond stocks appear to be WWI period but do not fit grip screw bushings correctly, leaving a space under the left lower stock. Bbl is replacement Springfield Armory made with “S” & “P” marks on left lug. No marks on right lug. No marks visible through ejection port. Mag appears to be standard Colt welded base type that has been refinished with Parkerized finish and has some of the refinish eroded. CONDITION: Numerous dings and erosion behind thumb safety pins on right hand side that have been blued over. Considerable patina on mainspring housing and grip safety. Checkered wide spur hammer and thumb safety excellent. Slide stop is 1911 type but serrated indicating reproduction or postwar replacement part. Springfield eagle over “S8” acceptance mark over mag catch is still crisp and sharp. Mag catch lock shows considerable buggering. Stock screws show considerable wear and minor buggering. Both slide and receiver appear to have been refinished with the same Black Army type finish. Considerable deterioration to finish on slide. Many scratches and scuffs covered up by refinish. Right side of slide is marked “Colt Automatic Calibre 455”, top of slide British proofed with Crown/BW, left side of slide has standard Colt patent markings and Rampant Colt, rear left slide shows crossed scepters British marking, receiver marked “R.A.F.” and crossed scepters in front of slide stop, over crossed scepters with broad arrow property mark, upper left trigger guard bow marked with “VP”, lower left trigger guard bow marked with “98” above Crown/G2A over mag catch release. Right side of receiver marked “Government Model” over “W106521” over Crown/BV over “Made in U.S.A.”, to the left of slide stop hole marked “Not English Make”, upper right trigger guard bow marked Crown/A1E. Front sight is thin flat sided Colt-type, rear sight is standard small u notched. Bbl marking “W” in front of lug, left lug marked “H20”, visible through ejection port are three normal British proof marks. Mag is standard two-toned US G.I. pinned base with upper tongue marked “B” (for Barnes). PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Entire pistol is refinished with war-time blue. Mainspring housing loop has added iron ring apparently for lanyard. The majority of the reapplied finish remains with only high edges and front of muzzle showing white metal. Bbl shows moderate wear to outer surfaces, bore is good with mostly bright finish only minor frosting between the lands. The double diamond stock left is very good, stock right shows moderate wear, screws in very good condition but missing most of the finish. *COLT 1911 TYPE GOVERNMENT MODEL PISTOL IN .455 CALIBER PISTOL WITH RAF MARKING.SN W107274. Cal. .455. 5″ bbl. Colt 1911 type government model in ORIGINAL .455 caliber pistol with RAF marking. Receiver right marked “Government Model” over SN behind slide stock pin. Left receiver marked “R.A.F.” and broad arrow marked over crossed scepters in front of slide stop pin. Crown over “G2” over “A” mark over mag catch. Slide marked with crossed scepters left rear. Bbl is “W” marked in front of lug. Bbl hood has rebated groove to allow for semi-rimmed .455 cartridge. Right slide marked “COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 455”. Slide left marked with Colt standard patent dates, Rampant Colt in middle Colt’s standard address on right. Front sight is thin, flat rounded. Rear sight is flat top with round notch. Flat over firing pin stop plate unmarked. Long milled smooth trigger, long wide checkered hammer, checkered thumb safety and slide stop, short tang grip safety and flat main spring housing with bent lanyard loop. Flat on top of receiver marked “E” with “4” to the right. Stocks are checkered double diamond type. (Mag marked “CAL .455” over “ELEY” with broad arrow property mark on base plate). Bbl is polished and no marks visible through ejection port. CONDITION: Mag catch and mag catch lock is very good plus but probably a replacement as mag does not insert without depressing mag release. Stocks are good plus condition. Right stock has moderate damage from screwdriver. Left stock is very good. Stock screws show orig finish with minor buggering of slots. Mag is two-tone with some surface erosion on all surfaces. Corners are sound. Lanyard loop is slightly loose. Bbl bore is frosted but lands and grooves are still sharp. Considerable erosion of external blued surface. External surface has considerable erosion on front grip strap and mainspring housing. All surfaces contain minor dings and dents as is typical with British pistols. Slide shows approx 85% orig bright blue finish with a lot of surface dings and scratches. Receiver shows approx 75% bright blue orig finish with most of the wear on the grip straps. Overall a much better than average looking Government Model in ORIGINAL .455 Cal Webley. Receiver right marked “Government Model” over SN W29249. Right side upper trigger guard bow marked with “Verified Proof”. Lower left trigger guard bow marked “Y”. Right slide marked “Colt Automatic/Calibre .455 (Second 5 is spaced slightly further away). Left hand side shows standard Colt 1913 patent dates followed by Colt’s standard address with Rampant Colt to rear and crown over “V” proof. Receiver marked crown over “V” below thumb safety. Bbl marked crown over “V” and crown over “P” visible through ejection port. Bbl marked “5” in front of lug and “W” on left lug. Bbl hood has abated groove under hood for semi-rimless .455 Webley cartridge. Slide front sight is thin, round, flat. Rear sight has “U” notch. No marks above firing pin stop plate. Slide bottom rail marked “E”. Slide rear sight registration mark lines up with mark on slide. Receiver marked “J.J.” above upper trigger guard bow. Mag is Colt two-tone commercial lanyard loop type. Mag bottom marked “CAL .455” over “ELEY”. CONDITION: Bbl lands and grooves show significant pitting. Front grip strap has large ding. Moderate takedown scratch. Small dings below slide stop. Slide has moderate salt and pepper corrosion underneath the Parkerised (phosphate) finish. All parts except mag and mag catch assembly are refinished with British applied phosphate finish. Mainspring housing under lanyard loop shows multiple scratches apparently from use of lanyard. Most of the Parkerised refinish remains on all parts with the exception of bbl lug and locking lugs. Left stock in very good+ condition, with wear only at the bottom. Right stock shows considerable wear and flattening of diamonds along with buggering of wood from a screwdriver. Mag has severe crack in rear right corner. Mag catch assembly has orig type finish but may be a replacement part. CONDITION: Finish moderately eroded on front and rear grip straps. Colt plastic stocks with Rampant Colt and brass inserts around screws good. Slight pitting on bottom of magazine. Cal. .32 ACP. 3-3/4″ bbl, gray Parkerized finish, 2-pc checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions. Fourth type with mag disconnect safety. Slide shows 2-line Colt address and patent mark on left side with Rampant Colt logo to the rear. Right side of slide shows 2-line Colt cal designation under ejector port. Frame is marked “U.S. Property” above trigger guard on right side. Left side of frame shows SN stamped above trigger guard. 2-pc checkered walnut grips with nickel Colt medallions. Mag base is stamped “Cal. 32 Colt”. Box is made of Kraft paper and is unmarked. Instruction leaflet is correct for this model as is the cleaning rod. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Slide retains 90% of the gray/green Parkerized finish with clear markings. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Frame also retains 90%+ of the dull gray/green Parkerized finish with clear markings. 2-pc grips are fine with sharp checkering and only a couple of small bruises on the right grip. Mag shows nearly all of the dull blue finish. Box is fine with no breaks or oil stains, instruction sheet is also fine with no oil stains. *COLT MODEL 1908 POCKET PISTOL ENGRAVED IN ELVIS PRESLEY PATTERN.SN 324998. Cal. 25 ACP. Blue finish with 2-1/8″ bbl, fixed sights with color case hardened grip safety, thumb safety & trigger. Mounted with Rampant Colt hard rubber grips. Slide is engraved with about full coverage, very well executed foliate arabesque patterns with pearled background. Both ends of the slide on both sides are inlaid with fine gold wire patterns similar to a Walther PPK from the same engraver. Bottom front of the slide is engraved “MAINS”. Bill Mains was a Master Engraver for Colt Firearms in the late 20th Century and was one of Colt’s most prolific engravers. When he first began engraving for Colt, he was told not to sign his work so he developed a small buffalo logo to represent his signature which is frequently found on both factory work and outside contract work with the occasional full signature instead as found here. Pistol is housed in a black leatherette case with a green velvet lining. Top of case is embossed “Colt 1908 Elvis Pattern” over “Colt Master Engraver” over “Bill Mains”. PROVENANCE: The Brad Shepard Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains virtually all of it’s orig blue on the frame & case colors on the 2 safeties & trigger.
