RARE ALEXANDER HENRY MINIATURE SINGLE SHOT DROPPING BLOCK EXPRESS RIFLE.

SN 3035. Cal. 360 2-1/4 BPE. 23-3/4″ Octagon bbl mounted with one standing, two nested folding leaf rear and silver bead front sights are dovetailed in. Top flat is engraved with makers name and Edinburgh address along with bbl patent use no. “2213”. Small sized action with peninsula left hand lock having serpentine hammer and front sliding safety is engraved with 80% coverage well cut scroll. “ALEXr HENRY” is in riband on lockplate. Action patent use no. “879” is on receiver ring and SN is on trigger guard tang. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over coarsely checkered steel buttplate. Standard checkering is at grip and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Slim forend with schnabeled horn tip mounts to bbl with sliding side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. Drop at heel: approx 2-11/16″, drop at comb: approx 1-11/16″. Weight: 4 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Good to fine. Metal parts are mostly gray to brown patina, but with a considerable amount of orig finish in protected areas. Bbl has considerable areas of cleaned rust, and patches of light pitting. GEORGE GIBBS FARQUHARSON SINGLE SHOT RIFLE.

SN 735. Cal. .303 British. 28″ Round bbl has been newly fitted and has no markings or proofs. It presently mounts old dovetailed scope blocks, two folding leaf and folding ladder express rear sight in island base and gold bead front in small square base. A sling eye is soldered to bottom. Gibbs Farquharson single shot dropping block action with patent use no. “735” engraved on receiver ring is case hardened, and features pivoting safety on right side with “BOLTED” inlaid in gold. Action is engraved with exceptionally well cut small scroll in classic pattern, with rose bouquets on right and “George Gibbs Bristol” on left side. Nicely flame figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-1/2″ over checkered steel buttplate. Borderless point pattern checkering is at full grip, and a sling eye as well as a vacant silver oval, are on toe line. Matching slim forend screws to bbl. Drop at heel: approx 2-3/4″, drop at comb: approx 1-3/4″. Weight: 8 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 13-1/2″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. New bbl retains nearly all of its blue. Action, is beautifully polished, and completely re-engraved with a high degree of competence, and retains nearly all of its new dark case color. Newly made buttstock has a number of nicks and dings in its orig finish. Orig forend has many marks, refinished, checkering partially freshened. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. W. & C. SCOTT 1877 FIELD PATENT SINGLE SHOT DROPPING BLOCK RIFLE.

SN 27418. Cal. Appears to be 45-75 Winchester. 27″ Tapered ovate bbl is engraved “W. & C. Scott & Son PRIZE HUNTING RIFLE No. 1 1880 Makers, London.” on unmatted portion on nicely feather matted top flat. One standing, two folding leaf rear sight with flip-up ladder graduated to 1000 yards, and a silver bead front, are dovetailed through. Sling eye is on bottom of bbl. Blued Field’s patent action has fully matted sides surrounded by well cut scroll engraving. Left side is marked “SCOTT” “FIELD’S PATENT” “NO 1927” “1877”. Matting continues onto receiver ring, top of breech block, top tang behind hammer, and on front portion of trigger plate. Integral trigger guard is scroll engraved. SN is on bottom tang. Nicely streaked European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8″ over matted steel buttplate with trap. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Nicely shaped slim forend with schnabeled horn tip screws to bbl. Drop at heel: approx 3″, drop at comb: approx 2-3/16″. Weight: 7 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 13-7/8″. CONDITION: Very fine, original as found. Bbl retains approx 80% orig blue with a number of light marks and scratches, and some discoloration at bottom. Action retains 60 – 70% of its orig blue, considerable loss due to flaking, these areas being a brownish gray. Stocks retain most of their orig hand rubbed oil finish, grain somewhat raised and open, with numerous light marks. Checkering quite dirty. Bore is very fine, frosted, with some scattered pitting. SINGLE SHOT DROPPING BLOCK RIFLE BY DANIEL FRASER WITH SHOTGUN BARREL.

SN 1601. Cal. 7 x 57R. Both 26″ bbls have flat matted ribs, 20 ga shotgun bbl (choked modified), with single bead, and with correct SN stamped on bottom. Rifle bbl with Fraser Leith Street Edinburgh address is fitted with one standing, two folding nested leaf express rear sight and gold bead front. Bbl has no proofs or other factory markings. Side lever operating Fraser action is marked with patent use number “204” on receiver ring, and features knurled takedown pin with coin slot on left side, instead of normal long lever. Action utilizes sliding safety in front of trigger. Action and side lever are engraved with 80% coverage attractive open scroll inside knot work borders. A raised shield on trigger plate has gold band engraved “FRASER”. Relatively plain European walnut buttstock measures 14″ over black Decelerator rifle pad. Stock features scroll engraved grip cap and point pattern checkering with broad mullered borders at grip. Matching forend with nicely shaped transition from action to grip, has Alexander Henry type groove at tip, and Deeley type release for takedown. Rifle BBL: Drop at heel: approx 2-1/2″, drop at comb: approx 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14″. CONDITION: Fine, as refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a smooth rust blue. Action re-engraved and re-colored, retain nearly all of that color. Stocks with oil refinish are rather blond, checkering re-cut. Forend wood away from metal at bottom. New rifle bbl is good, with some light pitting, but just may be dirty. Shotgun bore is fine with some light pits. Action smooth. RARE DANIEL FRASER SINGLE SHOT DROPPING BLOCK MINIATURE EXPRESS OR ROOK RIFLE.

SN 1523. Cal. 25/ 20. 26″ Tapered round bbl has been sleeved to 25/20. It was originally in 297 Rook with those markings on right side of bbl. Bbl is fitted with quarter rib holding one standing one folding express rear sight, also fitted with dovetails for Fraser patent scope. Silver bead front sight is in island block. Blued small sized Fraser side lever dropping block action has sliding safety in front of trigger. Action is engraved with Celtic knot borders, and patent use number “190” is on receiver ring which has also been dovetailed for repositioning of scope mount. SN is on trigger guard bow. Like most Frasers bbl can be taken down, in this case simple tapered pins are driven out of forend and action before forend can be removed and bbl unscrewed. Finely fiddle figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over embossed hard rubber buttplate with Fraser monogram. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching slim forend has Alexander Henry type groove at tip. Drop at heel: approx 2-1/8″, drop at comb: approx 1-11/16″. Weight: 5 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14-3/8″. CONDITION: Fine, as refurbished. SN 439. Cal. 25/20. 26″ Heavyweight round bbl is fitted with one standing, two folding leaf rear sight in screwed on base and gold bead front in screwed on ramp. Bbl is marked “Dave Norin – Gunmaker” under forend. Baby Gibbs Farquharson action is case hardened and unmarked except for patent use number “439” on right side above safety. Lightly marbled European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over steel buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching forend has horn tip and screws to bbl. Drop at heel: approx 2-1/2″, drop at comb: approx 2-1/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 4 oz. LOP: 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Good, as refurbished. Bbl retains nearly all of its rust blue. Action is nicely cleaned up and re-color hardened, and retains most of that color. Stocks refinished over numerous marks, sharp edges rounded, checkering haphazardly re-cut. Bore is excellent. SN 16501. (ca 1910) Cal. 22 Long Rifle. (Lined from 380 Rook ?) 25-1/2″ Ovate to round bbl has had front portion of top turned away forming a matted quarter rib holding a folding military type ladder sight. Rear portion of rib has been milled for dovetail. Small steel bead is in matching front ramp. Case hardened miniature Farquharson action has pivoting safety lever on right side and sides are near fully engraved with large shaded open scroll. Left side has Jeffrey name and address in circular belt around “London” and SN. Plain and lightly figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over partially checkered wood butt. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching slim forend has horn tip and is screwed to bbl. Drop at heel: approx 2-3/8″, drop at comb: approx 2-1/16″. Weight: 5 lbs. 6 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished, retaining nearly all very fine restored metal finishes, engraving very slightly softened. Wood retains nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish with a few subsequent marks. Wood is somewhat below metal at grip. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. SN 227. Cal. 577/450. 27-1/2″ Tapered round bbl fitted with full length broad matted rib, mounting one standing two folding leaf plus ladder long range express rear sights and small front bead, is engraved S. W. Silver & Co 29 Old Bond St & 67 Cornhill London.” (Yes, the inventor of the famous recoil pad) on unmatted portion of rib. A sling eye is soldered to bottom of bbl. Unusual Soper action patented in 1865, operates with side lever which lifts transverse dropping block while actuating extractor and cocking hammer. While at full cock, action cannot be operated without depressing long release lever at right of trigger. This action is engraved “Inventor & Patentee W. SOPER” “Manufacturer” “Reading” on left side with action number and SN “227” on receiver ring and trigger plate. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over steel buttplate. Flat top checkering with rounded borders wraps over grip. Matching checkering except in point pattern, is at fore piece which has horn tip. Drop at heel: approx 2-3/4″, drop at comb: approx 2-3/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Very fine, as mostly refinished. Bbl retains nearly all of a high quality rust-blue. Top portion of action has traces of case hardening color. Trigger plate and guard re-blued and retain nearly all of that blue. Stock retains most of a well done hand rubbed oil finish over numerous marks. Checkering has been lightly freshened. SN 52053. Cal. 222 Remington. In the consignors words “Rifle itself is built on a miniature Martini action extensively (and invisibly) strengthened by Bob Snapp to handle the much higher pressures of the rimless 222 Remington cartridge. It was then fitted by him with a 22″ half octagon/ half round barrel with a quarter rib with integral scope rings. Maurice then stocked the action in an extravagant classic style that displays every possible example of the stockmakers art, from its ebony tip with its double widows peak to its flawless, inset checkering, side panels, single and double shadow lines, heel and toe plates.” “Finally, Richard selected an engraving pattern to complement not compete with the work of these master craftsmen. It combines complete fine and medium scroll coverage with simple but tasteful gold leaves in the center of the action which are also mirrored in the scope rings.” (Rifle is fitted with Zeiss 4 X 32 Diatal – C with duplex reticle.) “Finally, the rifle was cased in a full “best quality” light tan leather case by Ian Tomlin, one of England’s finest case makers and outfitted with a full complement of accessories by Paul Roberts.” In addition, craftsmen’s names are on top of quarter rib. Stock wood is very attractive, well marbled and figured European walnut with LOP of 13-1/2″. Accessories include a rosewood handled steel cleaning rod, with mop, brush, and jag in brown leather wallet, horn handled turnscrew, and a square oil bottle. CONDITION: Excellent, near new with a few handling marks mostly on right side of buttstock. Bores are excellent. Buttstock is a bit loose on action. Case is excellent. Scope is excellent. SN 39834. Cal. .375 H & H Mag. 25″ Lightweight sporter bbl is fitted with sleeved-on island block holding one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight, sling eye and front ramp with gold bead and slip-on sight protector with detent release. Top of bbl is engraved “W. J. Jeffrey & Co London England” in old English script. Right rear is stamped with 2010 London nitro proofs. Standard length Mauser action is fitted with Recknagel type pivoting QD scope mounts, and is engraved “MADE IN ENGLAND” on right receiver ring with caliber on side of bridge. Polished bolt has turned down handle and is fitted with after market type shroud with Model 70 type safety. Steel drop box bottom metal has hinged floorplate with button release in trigger guard bow, and is engraved with 80% coverage nicely cut large shaded open scroll. Caliber is inlaid in gold at center of floorplate, and SN is in gold on trigger guard bow with two beads filed in. Dark, smoky marbled European walnut pistol grip stock measures 14-1/2″ over brown rifle pad, and features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, classically styled point pattern checkering at grip and forend, case hardened recoil bolt, case hardened and scroll engraved steel grip cap, as well as a vacant gold oval and a sling eye on toe line. Drop at heel: Approx 2-1/16″, drop at comb: approx 1-9/16″. Weight without scope: 9 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14-1/2″. Zeiss Duralyt 1.2 – 5 X 36 scope with crosshair and three post reticle is in QD rings, front ring engraved with makers name and SN, rear with caliber. Crocodile patterned brown leather full length case with brass corners and central medallion, is lined in royal blue cloth, and has gold embossed Jeffrey label in lid, along with charge card for this rifle. Bottom is configured to fit rifle and scope, and contains rosewood handled brass cleaning rod, with mop, brush and jag in leather wallet, two horn handled turnscrews, Jeffrey marked square oil bottle, and a high quality leather carrying sling. A covered compartment contains two keys. CONDITION: Excellent, essentially as new, appears unfired since proof, with only a few light handling marks, mostly on left side of butt behind cheekpiece. Top of bbl is marked “WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON” in left rear “FOR .404 CARTRIDGE”. Triangle mark is on flat at breech end. Standard length Model 98 Mauser action with stippled receiver ring is marked with SN on left side. Standard military bottom metal with locking screws retained. Newly made stock of stump figured and lightly marbled European (?) walnut reuses orig stock bolt, and steel grip cap, and features Silver type pad, right hand shadow line cheekpiece, and point pattern checkering at grip and forend. A vacant gold oval and a sling eye matching that soldered to bbl are on toe line. Drop at heel: approx 2-/8″, drop at comb: approx 1-5/8″. Weight: 9 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14-7/8″. *FINE ROSS MODEL 1907 “SCOTCH DEER RIFLE STALKING PATTERN” SPORTING RIFLE.

SN 6948. Cal. 280 Ross. Beautiful sporting rifle with 28″ tapered rnd bbl. Silver bead sleeve front sight and fixed rear sight marked “0-500”. Chamber area of bbl is marked with the Cal. and “PROVED 28 TONS”. Left side of chamber area is marked “MADE IN CANADA” along with a variety of English proofs and “NITRO PROVED”. Left side of receiver is marked with the makers name and address and Model number. Mounted in a 1-pc, nicely figured walnut stock with checkered, tapered forestock and pistol grip buttstock that has checkered butt. Buttstock and forestock have sling eyes. The Ross rifle is most unusual with its straight pull design similar to the Swiss rifles that also had straight pull feature. Bolt handle has a rotating safety which locks the striker out of battery. This rifle was produced in limited quantities from parts supplied by Ross to English gun makers where they were assembled and finished primarily for the English market. These rifles were very popular with the African and Indian hunters and are rarely found today with high orig finish. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl, receiver, trigger guard and floorplate retain 98-99% crisp orig English blue showing wear only on the front sight boss and bbl band. Bolt retains virtually all of its orig blue on top and bright metal underneath. Wood is sound showing light diamond point wear on the forestock and overall retains most of its orig oil finish.
