WILLIAM PASKELL (American, 1866-1951) 19TH CENTURY BOSTON CITY VIEW
Oil on canvas Housed in a modern silver painted wood frame Signed lower left “Wm Paskell” Note: The church and square depicted bears significant resemblance to the church formerly located at the corner of Summer and Bedford streets in Boston. Founders of the New South Church first met around 1714 at the Old Bull Tavern, with original members including Samuel Adams, Samuel Greenleaf and Thomas Peck. The church was first built in 1719, however, in 1814, Charles Bullfinch built a new church on the same spot. The church was demolished in 1868, shortly before William Paskell arrived in Boston as a young boy. It is possible this painting was created as a commemorative work by the artist in the early 20th century SIZE: 26″ x 28″.
