We have been notified by Greacen’s great grandson that the woman in the painting is not Theodore Butler’s wife, but it depicts the artist’s wife, Ethol Greacen, and this was painted in front of their Givery house, which was named “Maison en face de la gare” (house that faced the train station). This house was a block from Claude Monet’s home. He also expressed his excitement to see this painting again.

NOTE: Greacen gave this painting to his good friend and fellow artist Theodore Earl Butler who was Monet’s son-in-law.
