THREE INTERESTING CIVIL WAR BOOKS. 1) “The Flower of Liberty” by Julia Furbush, 1869, 131 pages with 40 chromolithograph plates. This rare privately printed book has gilt edges, an embossed gilt decorated spine & front cover. The editor and artist, Julia Furbush began compiling the album to honor the Army & Navy during the Civil War collecting & recording the imagery and corresponding with the contributing poets including Henry W. Longfellow, John Whittier, Oliver Wendall Holmes and others. 2) Salesman Sample of Jefferson Davis’s “A Short History of the United States of America”. The salesman sample is bound in blue cloth with black decoration with only 64 pages with pasted in samples of fancy bindings such as Morocco or capped leather, options are given for this book with gilt or marble edges, or simple library edition ranging from $2.50 to $5.50. 3) Extremely rare, first issue 7-page pamphlet “10 Months in Libby Prison” by Louis Palma Di Cesnola, Late Colonel 4th N.Y. Calvary. Circa 1865. CONDITION: 1) Solid & sound, spine & edges are scuffed & soiled with some loss to decoration. 2) Overall in very good condition. 3) Complete & sound though a reduction of missing bottom right corner (approx. 1″).
