GILT FLORENTINE RELIQUARY CHEST WITH FOUR NICHES FOR APOSTLES. This finely detailed gessoed chest is in the style of the 15th century. Probably 19th century constructed from ancient wood. The cabinet has Tabernacle molded sides featuring niches for apostles front and back with architectural and foliate detail in gilt gessoed. Having an in-curving pediment top. Each side is centered by heraldic seal. The interior reveals ancient wood with worm damage having its original forged cotter pin hinges. Very interesting and graphic example of very high quality. SIZE: From a fine Kentucky Estate. PROVENANCE: 28″w x 18″d x 22-1/2″h CONDITION: Wonderful, original surface, light wear and almost entire surface is intact. 9-92232 (1,000-2,000)
