UNSIGNED (American 19th Century) SOUTHERN PATRIOTIC EAGLE. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows a Bald Eagle with U.S. flag in beak perched on a American shield, the Constitution and olive leaves. A Union canon is below the flag along with a cannonball, musket, arrows, sword and ankle shackles; obviously depicting a commentary on the North. Housed in a possibly original gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 16″ x 24″. CONDITION: Very good, one patch to reverse showing no evidence of any imperfections to the front. 9-25861 (2,000-3,000)
