FREUND & BROTHERS WHITNEY LAIDLEY ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE. Cal .45-70. 35” round bbl. Marked “WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT.PATENTED / OCT.17.’65.RE-IS’D.JUNE 25.’72.DEC.26.’65 / RE-IS’D.OCT.1.’67.MAY 15.’66.JULY 16.’72” on the upper tang. It is also marked “FREUND & BRO” on top of bbl behind the rear sight. Frank and George Freund were in Cheyenne, WY at the period this gun was made. They furnished guns to settlers, hunters and immigrants crossing the plains. SN 8793. CONDITION: 20% blue on bbl mixed with brown patina and light pitting, casehardening colors on the action are all silvered out with light to moderate pitting remaining. Buttplate is brown with patches of heavy rust. Wood has normal handling marks. Action is fine. 4-50142 X43 (1,500-3,000)
