MARTIALLY MARKED COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER. CAL. 36. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ oct. bbl, pinched brass front sight post, case colored rammer and frame, brass trigger guard and back strap, 1-pc walnut grips. Left side of frame has a tiny US below the Colts patent marking. Some of the parts have tiny inspector initials including the grips, which do not have a cartouche. This revolver is most unusual in that it is completely mismatched with all 2-digit numbers. The frame and cylinder pin are numbered 79; trigger guard, which is of the small variety, is numbered 53; the back strap is numbered 91; the cylinder is numbered 28; and the rammer is numbered 67. The grips are un-numbered in the frame channel. CONDITION: About excellent with the bbl retaining 93-95% bright orig. blue with some scattered surface spotting that may clean. The rammer retains about all of its bright case colors, cylinder retains about 95% scene and 75% blue with most of the safety pins intact. The frame retains about 95% case colors brilliant in sheltered areas and the frame screws are slightly battered as is the wedge screw. Trigger guard and back strap are a light mustard patina, grips are excellent with raised grain. Bright shiny bore with a few scattered spots of rust. A most unusual and mystifying Navy. 4-45358 JL164 (5,000-8,000)
