1855 WEAVER PATENT PERCUSSION SHOTGUN. CAL. about 14 bore. This firearm was formally in the A. E. Brooks Collection in 1899 and then appeared in the US Cartridge Co. Collection. Shows features of Sharps with disk primer, feature of S&W, Winchester adn Henry with lever mechanism. Very unusual patent model, lever action percussion shotgun with 32″ round bbl, flat side metal receiver with lever that, when operated, rotates the chamber to the right for loading and installing the percussion cap. The lever action also cocks a false side hammer, which controls the internal striker. The top of the receiver is fitted with an unusual brass-capping tool that automatically loads a percussion cap into a rising block that functions as the lever is operated. The left forward side of the receiver bears the patent date and there is the number “1392” on the right side of the wrist. The stock is highly figured American walnut with a straight grip and a steel buttplate with 3″ long pointed top tang. SN None visible. CONDITION: About excellent. The metal retains about 80% bright glossy blue. The wood is sound with a repair through the wrist, a couple of gouges and small handling marks, otherwise retains about 80% orig. varnish. The ball detent and spring that secures the lever in the close position is missing. Strong bright bore with scattered pitting. 4-45415 JL223 (5,000-10,000)
