WESTERN CARTRIDGE CO. LITHO PRINTERS PROOF OR COLOR PALETTE. 23 1/2″ by 16″ image on a 24″ by 18″ page by “A. RUSSELL” entitled “SPORTSMEN’S CREDENTIALS” depicting a train station with a group of hunters, dogs, cased guns, rabbits and quail, with their licenses being checked by a game warden and the train approaching in the background. On a stack of crates, in the background, is a case of Western 12ga. shot shells. One of the hunters and a child are trying to get the attention of the warden tell him that the train is approaching, apparently to speed up the process. The lower left side of the border has blocks of ten different colors with their codes as a guide to the printer. Also has the centering layout lines penciled at the corners and in the center. This is the exact one illustrated in Robert Strauss’ book on Gun Advertising. CONDITION: Fine to excellent. The image is sharp and clear and the colors crisp and bright. There are three series of two small creases that are about 4″ in from the left edge. Otherwise, there is only one small tear in the bottom edge and light soil to the border. 4-45326 JL400 (2,000-3,000)
